Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about our services

Before you start

What is the first session with a psychologist like?

It is a session to get to know each other and understand what is going on. You do not need to know what to say or prepare anything: you can tell us at your own pace, without judgment. At the end we give you an initial assessment and agree on next steps.

When should I see a psychologist?

You do not have to be in a bad place. You can come if something is not working the way you would like: you are sleeping badly, you feel more anxious or low than usual, you argue more, or something you used to handle well now weighs on you. We also see people who simply want to know themselves better or perform better in their sport or at work.

How many therapy sessions will I need?

It depends on the problem and the person. Some well-defined problems, such as a specific phobia, take 8 to 12 sessions; others, such as severe OCD or an eating disorder, need more time. In general we are talking about months, not years. In the first session we agree on goals and give you an estimate, which we review with you along the way.

How often are sessions and how long do they last?

Sessions last about 55 minutes and are usually held every two or three weeks, although they can be weekly if needed. The frequency is adapted to each person, with the aim of spacing sessions out as treatment progresses and improvements appear.

Is what I say in session confidential?

Yes. Everything we discuss is protected by professional confidentiality. It can only be broken in the cases set out by law, such as a serious risk to you or to someone else.

What languages do you work in?

Spanish and Catalan. We also work in English.

What ages do you work with?

We see clients from age 6. Up to 18, in Child and Adolescent Psychology; from 18, in Health Psychology. In Sports Psychology we work with athletes and coaches of any age and level.

Appointments, location and online sessions

How do I book an appointment?

You can book on the website under "Book": choose your psychologist, day and time. If you prefer, message us on WhatsApp or call +34 93 146 44 64. We try to reply within 24 hours.

Where is your practice?

Our main practice is at Carrer de Cervantes, 3, in Ripollet, a few minutes from Cerdanyola del Vallès and Montcada i Reixac. In Barcelona we see clients on some days at Teodora Lamadrid, 30 (Sarrià). We also offer online sessions.

Do you offer online therapy?

Yes. Video sessions have the same length and the same follow-up as in-person sessions, and for most problems the results are comparable. We send you a link and there is nothing to install. You can combine online sessions with in-person ones in Ripollet or Barcelona.

What if I cannot make a session?

Let us know at least 24 hours in advance and we will reschedule at no cost. If you cancel later or do not show up without notice, the session counts as held.

Prices and payment

How much does a therapy session cost?

An individual session costs €60, in person or online. Packs lower the price per session: 5 sessions for €280, 10 for €520 and 15 for €720. There is a reduced rate of €50 for people who are unemployed and for athletes from the clubs we work with.

Do session packs expire?

No. Neither single sessions nor packs have an expiry date: use them at your own pace.

Can I use packs for any specialty?

Yes. They work for Health, Sports and Child and Adolescent Psychology, in person or online, and you can combine sessions from different areas.

What do I need for the unemployment rate?

In your first session, show us a document proving you are unemployed, such as the SEPE certificate.

Is an online session the same price as in person?

Yes. The price is the same in Ripollet, in Barcelona and online.

How do I pay for sessions?

By card (including Apple Pay and Google Pay), Bizum, bank transfer or cash at the practice. If you book on the website, you can pay right away or later.

Do you work with health insurance?

No. We work privately and are not in any insurer’s network. Some insurance plans reimburse part of the cost of private consultations: we give you an invoice so you can claim it. Check with your provider.

Health Psychology

Do you treat anxiety and depression?

Yes. They are two of the most common reasons people come to us. We use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, one of the best-supported treatments for anxiety, panic attacks and depression. We also treat OCD, insomnia, work stress, grief, addictions and other problems.

What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?

A psychiatrist is a doctor: they diagnose and can prescribe medication. A psychologist assesses and treats with psychotherapy, without medication. Often the two are combined. If we think a psychiatric assessment would help you, we will tell you.

What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?

It is a form of psychological therapy that works on what you think, feel and do, and on what keeps the problem going today. It is structured, with concrete goals and exercises between sessions, and it is one of the approaches with the strongest scientific support.

Do I need a diagnosis to start therapy?

No. Many people come because they feel something is not right without a clear diagnosis. Our job is to help you understand what is happening and design a treatment that fits you.

Do you offer EMDR?

No, we do not offer EMDR. We work with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which has specific, well-researched treatments for trauma. If you are looking for EMDR specifically, we will tell you plainly so you can find a trained professional.

Sports Psychology

What does a sports psychologist do?

They help athletes and coaches perform better and feel better. We assess and train skills such as managing competitive anxiety, focus, confidence and decision-making, and we support you through moments like an injury, a club change or retirement. We also look after the athlete’s mental health, not just their performance.

Do you only work with professional athletes?

No. We work with athletes of any age and level, from youth sport to elite, and with their families when they are minors. We have experience in football, futsal, basketball, hockey, athletics, tennis, padel, rhythmic gymnastics and figure skating, among other sports.

What is the difference between a sports psychologist and a mental coach?

A sports psychologist is a licensed professional with a degree in Psychology and specific training in sport. Coaching is not a regulated profession and does not require that training. We are licensed psychologists (COPC) and work with psychological assessment and proven methods.

How long before a competition should I start?

Ideally several months before an important competition, but we also work short term, in the weeks before. The right moment depends on the problem and the goal, and we decide it with you.

Can I have sessions online if I compete or live abroad?

Yes. We work by video call with athletes and coaches across Spain and abroad, and we adapt session times to travel, competitions and time zones. We also work in English.

How can psychology help a coach?

By looking after their mental health (an often neglected reality in sport), improving communication with the team, making clearer decisions under pressure, managing the stress and loneliness of the role and preventing burnout.

Do you offer services for clubs and teams?

Yes. We work with clubs on designing psychology departments, squad follow-up, training for coaching staff and one-off interventions. Every club has different needs, so we prepare a tailored plan.

What if an athlete needs clinical care?

We see them in clinical psychology, in coordination with the sport psychologist who knows the sporting context, and always with the athlete’s consent. We have worked together since 2014, and treatment takes competition and the calendar into account.

How can sports psychology help when you move abroad to play or coach?

Moving country brings adaptation stress, loneliness and culture shock. We work on strategies to adapt and to manage that stress in and out of sport, so the athlete or coach can keep performing while settling in. It is the topic of a doctoral thesis defended at the UAB.

Child and Adolescent Psychology

When should a child or teenager see a psychologist?

Some signs: sudden changes in mood or behavior, grades dropping for no clear reason, difficulty getting along with other children, fears that limit their daily life, frequent sleep or eating problems, or simply a sense that something is not right. There is no need to wait for a crisis: dealing with a difficulty early usually makes the work easier.

From what age do you see children?

We see children and teenagers aged 6 to 17. We adapt sessions for children aged 6 to 11 with visual and playful resources. With teenagers aged 12 to 17, we use a format closer to a standard therapy session.

Do parents take part in therapy?

Yes, especially with younger children. We usually start with a session with the parents (without the child), then work directly with the child and, from time to time, bring the family back in to agree on how to handle things at home. How involved the family is depends on each case.

Is what my child says in session confidential?

Yes, except in situations of risk. At the same time, we give you regular guidance so you know how to support the process at home, without needing to tell you everything they say in session.

How do I tell my child they are going to see a psychologist?

Naturally, and without presenting it as a punishment. You can tell them you are going to see someone whose job is to help children and teenagers when something worries them or feels hard. With teenagers it helps to involve them in the decision. If you are not sure how to bring it up, we can talk about it in the first session with you.

Do you assess and treat ADHD in children and teenagers?

Yes. We assess it with interviews and tests, and work with the child or teenager and the family. If during the assessment we see that a medical evaluation is also needed, we tell you and point you in the right direction.

Do you see children with autism (ASD)?

No. We are not specialists in autism spectrum disorder (ASD). If we suspect it during the assessment, we explain it clearly and refer you to a specialist team.

Therapy in English

Do I need to speak Catalan or Spanish?

No. Sessions are entirely in English.

How soon will I see results?

Many people notice changes within 4 to 6 sessions. In the first session we set clear goals and realistic timelines.
