English-Speaking Psychologist in Barcelona
Therapy in English for expats in Barcelona and the surrounding area, from a psychologist whose doctoral research focused on migration. We help you adapt, settle in and enjoy life here.
Why psicoaction?
Living abroad can change your life for the better, and it can also be hard. A new culture, a new language, a new job and distance from the people who support you all add up to emotional stress that isn't always easy to handle alone.
We understand these challenges because we have researched them and lived them. We use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), the approach with the strongest scientific evidence for adaptation, anxiety and emotional wellbeing.
Fran Herruzo holds a PhD (Cum Laude) in Health and Sports Psychology, with a doctoral thesis on migration processes and their psychological impact. That research is the basis of how we work with expats.

How we work with you
First session, in English
We talk through what brought you here (the language barrier, the loneliness, the job stress) and set clear, realistic goals together.
A CBT-based plan
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy adapted to your situation as an expat, not a generic protocol.
Weekly sessions
50 to 55 minutes, in person in Barcelona or Ripollet, or online from anywhere. Many people notice a change within 4 to 6 sessions.
Adjusting as you go
We revisit your goals as your situation changes: a new job, a visit home, a harder week.
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most common questions
See all frequently asked questionsDo I need to speak Catalan or Spanish?
No. Sessions are entirely in English.
How often are sessions and how long do they last?
Sessions last about 55 minutes and are usually held every two or three weeks, although they can be weekly if needed. The frequency is adapted to each person, with the aim of spacing sessions out as treatment progresses and improvements appear.
How soon will I see results?
Many people notice changes within 4 to 6 sessions. In the first session we set clear goals and realistic timelines.
What is the first session with a psychologist like?
It is a session to get to know each other and understand what is going on. You do not need to know what to say or prepare anything: you can tell us at your own pace, without judgment. At the end we give you an initial assessment and agree on next steps.
Do you offer online therapy?
Yes. Video sessions have the same length and the same follow-up as in-person sessions, and for most problems the results are comparable. We send you a link and there is nothing to install. You can combine online sessions with in-person ones in Ripollet or Barcelona.
What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?
It is a form of psychological therapy that works on what you think, feel and do, and on what keeps the problem going today. It is structured, with concrete goals and exercises between sessions, and it is one of the approaches with the strongest scientific support.
